San Antonio Zoo Launches New Virtual Summer Camps

Known for its popular WILD summer camps, San Antonio Zoo is shifting gears this summer and offering virtual camp options. In following the governor’s guidelines for youth camps, the zoo reduced its enrollment capacity and has reached capacity for in-person camps. The zoo will offer two virtual camp options, Zoo Your Own Adventure and Tales from the Field. These are great for students Kinder through 12th grades looking to engage and learn from home.

“Our education team is excited to safely welcome students to the zoo’s traditional summer camp,” said Tim Morrow, President & CEO San Antonio Zoo. “We’re known for being innovative, and in following the state’s guidelines to limit capacity, the team created a new, engaging way to offer the summer camp curriculum virtually. While we encourage children to get outside and enjoy nature, we still want to offer a unique experience where children can engage with our team and learn more about the animals in our care from the comfort and safety of their home.”

Zoo Your Own Adventure is available for students Kinder – 5th grades starting July 1 – 31 and is the perfect way to experience all the fun of summer camp from the comfort of home. Students can choose from a variety of exclusive live and interactive video experiences with animals, Zoo Crew, and peer groups. Whether looking for animal meet-and-greets, behind-the-scenes adventures, group activities, zoo tours, (or all the above!), Zoo Your Own Adventure allows the student to build the perfect online camp schedule to complement any family’s schedule. This new, virtual camp is all about fun with a focus on giving participants a chance to share stories, ask questions, and following their passion for animals and the zoo. Zoo Your Own Adventure has five experiences to appeal to your child’s passion for wildlife and nature. There are two options for virtual camp: five sessions for $100.00 or unlimited sessions in July for $175.00. The unlimited session option comes with a camp t-shirt, water bottle, at-home activities, and more!

Tales from the Field is available for students 6th – 12th grades starting July 1 – 31 and allows students to get an in-depth look into zoo career fields. They’ll learn directly from our experts on animal care, veterinary care, and conservation of species. Each of these programs will take advantage of the program’s digital platform and include experiences not traditionally seen in a camp or a behind-the-scenes experience. Students will get exclusive time with our experts to learn about their career path, their experience at the zoo, and to ask questions while getting to see the animals they work with. Tales from the Field are $30 per session or $120 for all five sessions.

San Antonio Zoo also offers Distance Learning Zoo Chats for larger groups looking to add to their summer camp curriculum. These live chats are geared towards students of all ages and perfect for curious minds. Zoo Chats allow students to talk to an expert and are great for project-based learning initiatives. Groups can pick a favorite animal or topic then join the Education Team for a student-driven interactive online Q&A session. Distance Learning Zoo Chats are $40 for a 25-minute session. Theses can be booked online through the education team at www.sazoo.org/education-programs/field-trips.
