The Original Riverwalk Hotel

When it opened in 1962, The El Tropicano was the first hotel on San Antonio’s famed Riverwalk. Hip and fashionable from the start, the “El Trop” was inspired by the popularity and casual glamour of Acapulco beach resorts.

The hotel quickly gained a reputation with movie stars, rock legends and at least one U.S. president from Texas, who dubbed the hotel the Texas White House.

Today, the El Tropicano is fashionably updated with a fun, retro twist that pays respect to the hotel's original style. It continues to be the home away from home for visiting celebrities and musicans.  Most recenlty the hotel has hosted names such as Charlie Daniels, Don Williams, Wynton Marsalis and TV and movie legend, Barry Corbin.

Nestled in the heart of the Riverwalk, on the progressive Museum Reach,  guests are minutes from exciting restaurants, attractions and museums on the original section of the Riverwalk, the Pearl Brewery and the "South Bank.”
