Welcome to the restoration of the 1929 Alamo National Bank Building into the Drury Plaza Hotel
In 1929, a construction began on the $2,500,000 skyscraper, after the Alamo National Bank had outgrown its first bank building. San Antonio was at the point, the largest and richest city in Texas.
Using Art Deco ornamentation and the principles of the Beaux-Arts, the architecture firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White designed the 24-story skyscraper and incorporated the Texas Stars and southwest patterns. This architectural masterpiece has been a landmark in the San Antonio skyline since its construction.
The Marriott Plaza San Antonio definitely stands out above the rest!
Sitting on six acres of natural, lush Texas landscape, guests can stroll in the shade of cypress and palm trees, or dine overlooking a courtyard that’s home to Asian pheasants and peacocks. Located just 2 blocks from the famous River Walk, our location offers convenience to The Alamo – the “Cradle of Texas Liberty”, La Villita Historic Art Village, Hemisphere Park and Tower of Americas. Shopping is conveniently nearby at the Rivercenter Mall and many museums, cultural centers, local-flavored restaurants and art galleries are within walking distance. Visitors will enjoy everything our hotel offers, including beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, a quiet and beautifully landscaped outdoor pool, 17,000 sq. ft. of function space, and close proximity to the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. The Marriott Plaza San Antonio is the perfect accommodation for business and leisure travelers alike.

La Villita, south of the River Walk in downtown San Antonio, was originally settled nearly 300 years ago as one of the city's first neighborhoods. In 1939, La Villita Historic Arts Village was established and the neighborhood was adapted into a center for teaching regional arts and crafts and to serve as an artists market. Today, nearly 30 shops and galleries offer distinct handcrafted items by artists from San Antonio and surrounding areas. You'll find paintings, folk art, textiles, sculptures, copper wares, jewelry, and more. Plus, in the midst of these tree-lined walkways and plazas, enjoy a savory culinary experience at the area restaurants with options ranging from traditional Mexican flavors to steakhouse favorites. The Majestic Theatre and Charline McCombs Theatre are San Antonio’s premier performing arts facilities featuring Broadway shows, concerts, comedians and other live events.
The Historic Majestic Theatre is located at 224 E. Houston Street in the heart of downtown San Antonio, Texas. Built in 1929 by John Eberson for Interstate Theatres, the Majestic was intended to be the most modern building in South Texas and was the first in the state to be totally air-conditioned. The Majestic remains one of the finest examples of atmospheric theatres ever built, receiving National Historic Landmark status in 1993. Purchased in 1988 by the City of San Antonio, the theatre was renovated in 1989 at a cost of $15 million, and shortly after, in 1996, the stage was expanded, allowing the theatre to accommodate major Broadway musicals. Since 1989, the Majestic has hosted over 5 million patrons, all at no cost to taxpayers. Address: 224 E. Houston St, San Antonio, Texas 78205
The Charline McCombs Empire Theatre was built in 1913 on the site of the former Rische's Opera House in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Designed in the style of a European palazzo by architects Mauran, Russell & Crow of St. Louis, the Empire operated as a vaudeville house and then a motion picture theatre. The Empire's grandeur was prematurely concealed by inappropriate repairs to extensive flood damage in 1921. After a long, slow decline, the vaudeville house, turned B-run movie theatre, closed its doors in 1978. Address: 226 N. St. Mary’s Street, San Antonio, Texas 78205
