Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Ceremony
Date: November 27, 2015 Time: 7:00PM - 9:00PM
The decision to cancel the Ford Holiday River Parade was a difficult one to make due to the year-long planning and hard work by sponsors, volunteers and staff. The event organizer, Paseo Del Rio Association, share in the disappointment by everyone. This is the first time in the parade's 34 years history the parade was cancelled. The decision to cancel by Paseo and the City of San Antonio River Walk operations staff was to ensure the safety of the over 250 people riding on floats. The rapid water flow from street drain-off into the river created an unsafe condition for boat riders.
The 34th Annual Ford Holiday River Parade is a San Antonio tradition. It offers a spectacular one-hour parade on the San Antonio River Walk featuring 28 illuminated floats decorated for the 2015 theme; Holiday Memories. Lavishly decorated floats include celebrities, music and festive-costumed participants. This years' Grand Marshal is the Honorable Julian Castro, former San Antonio Mayor and homegrown son who resigned as mayor in 2014 to take a Cabinet position in Washington D.C.
